Åland: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 10 percent
In January 2019, 6,900 bed nights were recorded in Åland (+10.0 %), of which 4,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,500 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 47 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 23 percent. In total, bed nights increased 10 percent from last year's January.
4,900 nights (+24.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 2,000 nights (-14.0 %) by business visitors.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.5 million bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 869,000 nights (+1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 675,000 nights (+0.6 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Åland out of total bed nights was 0.4 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.5 % and foreign bed nights 0.4 %.
3,700 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased less than one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 65.1 percent were domestic, and 34.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Åland on average 1.8 nights (+0.22) and foreigners 2.0 nights (+0.18).
