Paid bed nights
Registered bed nights increased eight percent
In December 2019, 5,900 registered bed nights were recorded in Åland (+8.4 %), of which 2,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,300 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased less than one percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 16 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased eight percent from last year's December.
5,200 nights (+22.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 740 nights (-40.0 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 171,000 registered bed nights (+2.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 226,000 (-0.1 %) for foreigners in Åland, in total 396,000 (+0.8 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Length of stay was 1.6 nights in registered accommodation
Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased three percent compared to earlier year. In Åland, length of stay in December was on average 1.6 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (+1.9 %).
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Åland on average 1.7 nights (+0.9 %) and foreigners 1.6 nights (+1.3 %).
3,600 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 12 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 42.3 percent were domestic, and 57.7 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Åland on average 1.7 nights (-0.01) and foreigners 1.6 nights (-0.09).
