53,000 registered bed nights

In December 2018, 53,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Åre (-2.1 %), of which 44,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 8,400 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased four percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 24 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased two percent from last year's December.

14,300 rooms (+0.2 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 2,400 rooms (-3.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 495,000 registered bed nights (-0.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 126,000 (-7.4 %) for foreigners in Åre, in total 620,000 (-1.7 %) registered nights.

Total of 3.4 million registered bed nights (+1.7 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 2.7 million nights (+1.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 787,000 nights (+3.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Åre out of total registered bed nights was 1.5 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.7 % and foreign bed nights 1.1 %.

Length of stay was 3.0 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased eight percent compared to earlier year. In Åre, length of stay in December was on average 3.0 nights and in Sweden 2.1 nights (-0.1 %).

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Åre on average 3.2 nights (+2.3 %) and foreigners 2.6 nights (+1.3 %).

17,400 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 81.0 percent were domestic, and 19.0 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Åre on average 3.2 nights (-0.27) and foreigners 2.6 nights (-0.34).

The airport received a total of 22,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased three percent.

Of local passengers, 8.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 91.4 %.
