Central Finland: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered accommodation. All changes are relative to the same period a year ago.
Registered bed nights increased 80 percent (March)
Registered bednights in Central Finland in March increased 80 percent compared to year before. Bednights were recorded in Central Finland in March 2022 92,400, of which for Finns 85,500 and for foreign visitors 6,900. Therefore domestic bed nights increased 71 percent and foreign bed nights increased 380 percent. In total, bed nights increased 80 percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Estonia (1,900 nights).
63,100 nights (+72.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 29,300 nights (+98.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, bed nights in Central Finland were in total 232,000 (+45.7 % compared to year before), of which domestic were 212,000 (+37.5 % compared to year before) and foreign visitors 20,000 (+299.5 % compared to year before). In Finland bed nights were between January and March in total 4.2 million (+72.1 % compared to year before), of which domestic were 3.1 million (+36.1 % compared to year before) and foreign visitors 1.1 million (+595.8 % compared to year before).
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

49,200 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (March)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 122 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 94.6 percent were domestic, and 5.4 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Central Finland on average 1.8 nights (-0.46) and foreigners 2.6 nights (-0.42).
940 air travelers (Jyväskylä)
The airport received a total of 940 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 13,300 percent.
Of local passengers, 76.7 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 23.3 %.
In addition, there were 930 passengers departing the airport (+15,366.7 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 1,900 (+14,261.5 %).

Foreign visitors and their consumption (March)
The number of foreign visitors in March was 9,400 (+459.1 %). Out of them 1,200 were on a daytrip and 8,200 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and March was 20,800 (+330.4 %).
Total consumption of these visitors in Central Finland in March was 1.8 million euro (190 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 1.7 million euro and day visitors 118,000 euro. Between January and March the consumption was 4.0 million euro.
