Central Finland: Tourism in a nutshell
72,200 registered bed nights
In September 2019, 72,200 bed nights were recorded in Central Finland (-2.6 %), of which 65,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 6,500 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased two percent and foreign bed nights decreased eight percent. In total, bed nights decreased three percent from last year's September.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (870 nights).
39,700 nights (+3.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 32,500 nights (-9.1 %) by business visitors.
Between January and September, 733,000 bed nights (-2.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 109,000 (-12.1 %) for foreigners in Central Finland, in total 842,000 (-3.8 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

43,800 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 92.8 percent were domestic, and 7.2 percent were from foreign countries.
During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Central Finland on average 1.6 nights (-0.06) and foreigners 2.1 nights (-0.12).

Foreign visitors and their consumption
The number of foreign visitors in September was 12,900. Out of them 2,900 were on a daytrip and 10,000 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and September was 150,000.
Total consumption of these visitors in Central Finland in September was 2.3 million euro (180 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 2.1 million euro and day visitors 278,000 euro. Between January and September the consumption was 27.9 million euro.

Accommodation sales 4.0 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in September were 4.0 million euro (+145,000).
Registered January-September sales were 42.6 million euro and they decreased 1.8 million euro from the previous year.
