Registered bed nights increased 22 percent (August)

In August 2022, 7,300 registered bed nights were recorded in Central Karelia (+22.3 %), of which 6,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 630 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 21 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 32 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 22 percent from last year's August.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (270 nights).

7,200 nights (+20.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 87 nights (-76.1 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 26,400 registered bed nights (-0.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1,700 (+101.5 %) for foreigners in Central Karelia, in total 28,000 (+2.3 %) registered nights.

Market share 0.3 percent (August)

Total of 2.3 million registered bed nights (+12.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.8 million nights (-2.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 560,000 nights (+114.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Central Karelia out of total registered bed nights was 0.3 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.4 % and foreign bed nights 0.1 %.

2,800 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (August)

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 21 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 90.2 percent were domestic, and 9.8 percent were from foreign countries.

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Central Karelia on average 2.6 nights (+0.16) and foreigners 2.3 nights (-2.3).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 250 percent (August)

A total of 129,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Russian visa applications increased 330 percent (June)

There was a total of 12,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.5 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 322,000 euro (August)

Total accommodation sales in August were 322,000 euro (-13,600). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 42.5 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 185,000 euro (-4,600) and non-registered sales 137,000 euro (-9,100).
