Espoo: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased six percent (February)
In February 2020, 31,000 bed nights were recorded in Espoo (+6.0 %), of which 20,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 10,600 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased seven percent and foreign bed nights increased five percent. In total, bed nights increased six percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,100 nights).
9,700 nights (+1.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 21,300 nights (+8.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 38,900 bed nights (+1.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 24,600 (+8.5 %) for foreigners in Espoo, in total 63,500 (+4.2 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Market share 1.7 percent (February)
Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+7.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 613,000 nights (+1.9 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Espoo out of total bed nights was 1.7 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.7 % and foreign bed nights 1.7 %.
15,100 tourists arrived to accommodation (February)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased nine percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 72.9 percent were domestic, and 27.1 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Espoo on average 1.9 nights (-0.1) and foreigners 2.6 nights (+0.06).
10,000 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests increased 43 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 92 congresses organized (+27) in 2019.
543,000 air travelers (Helsinki)
The airport received a total of 543,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 55 percent. 136,000 travelers were transferring planes (-57.6 %) and 407,000 were local passengers (-53.8 %).
Of local passengers, 81.5 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 18.5 %. For transferring passengers, the share of travelers arriving from abroad was 76.7 %.
In addition, there were 203,000 passengers departing the airport (-62.6 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 746,000 (-57.3 %).

Accommodation sales 2.1 million euro (February)
Total accommodation sales in February were 2.1 million euro (+34,800). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 16.6 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.8 million euro (-2,400) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 292,000 euro (+37,200).
Total January-February sales were 4.3 million euro and they decreased 189,000 euro from the previous year.
