Lapland: Tourism in a nutshell

Registered bed nights increased 12 percent (December 2022)
In December 2022, 555,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Lapland (+12.5 %), of which 113,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 441,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 13 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 22 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 12 percent from last year's December.
467,000 nights (+15.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 88,200 nights (-2.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 1.7 million registered bed nights (-5.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1.4 million (+156.1 %) for foreigners in Lapland, in total 3.1 million (+32.6 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

184,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (December 2022)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 21 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 20.7 percent were domestic, and 79.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Lapland on average 3.0 nights (-0.16) and foreigners 3.0 nights (-0.26).

The airport received a total of 1,300 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased seven percent.

The airport received a total of 79,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 40 percent.
Of local passengers, 55.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 44.6 %.
In addition, there were 78,700 passengers departing the airport (+53.6 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 158,000 (+46.3 %).
