86,600 bed nights in paid accommodation (June)
Total of 86,600 bed nights (-4.1 %) were recorded in paid accommodation in North Karelia in June 2022. This figure includes bed nights at registered establishments as well as at AirBnB and Vrbo. The share of registered bed nights was 66 % and non-registered 34 %.
Between January and June, the number of paid bed nights was 331,000 (+8.5 %). Share of registered was 60 % and non-registered 40 %.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded. Non-registered bed nights statistics include bed nights from AirBnB and Vrbo.
56,900 registered bed nights (June)
In June 2022, 56,900 registered bed nights were recorded in North Karelia (-5.3 %), of which 52,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 4,600 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 11 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 360 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased five percent from last year's June.
42,600 nights (-15.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 14,300 nights (+48.5 %) by business visitors.
Between January and June, 184,000 registered bed nights (+14.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 15,200 (+351.6 %) for foreigners in North Karelia, in total 199,000 (+21.0 %) registered nights.

30,500 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (June)
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased seven percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 94.2 percent were domestic, and 5.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in North Karelia on average 1.8 nights (-0.01) and foreigners 2.6 nights (+0.31).
890 air travelers (Joensuu)
The airport received a total of 890 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 300 percent.
Of local passengers, 0.9 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 99.1 %.
In addition, there were 970 passengers departing the airport (+349.5 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 1,900 (+322.5 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 29 percent (June)
A total of 37,200 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Russian visa applications increased 330 percent (June)
There was a total of 12,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.5 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 4.0 million euro (June)
Total accommodation sales in June were 4.0 million euro (+334,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 22.7 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 3.1 million euro (+371,000) and non-registered sales 914,000 euro (-37,100).
Total January-June sales were 16.9 million euro and they increased 3.9 million euro from the previous year.
