Registered bed nights increased 199 percent

In December 2021, 254,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Gothenburg (+199.2 %), of which 212,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 42,200 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 187 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 280 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 199 percent from last year's December.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Norway (10,400 nights).

83,000 rooms (+170.1 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 59,100 rooms (+172.2 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 2.4 million registered bed nights (+40.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 481,000 (+44.6 %) for foreigners in Gothenburg, in total 2.9 million (+40.7 %) registered nights.

Market share 7.5 percent

Total of 3.4 million registered bed nights (+85.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 2.8 million nights (+74.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 553,000 nights (+166.0 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Gothenburg out of total registered bed nights was 7.5 % (+2.9 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 7.5 % and foreign bed nights 7.6 %.

170,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 240 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 86.1 percent were domestic, and 13.9 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Gothenburg on average 1.5 nights (-0.2) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.63).

111,000 air travelers

The airport received a total of 111,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 320 percent.

Of local passengers, 82.5 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 17.5 %.

In addition, there were 132,000 passengers departing the airport (+284.2 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 243,000 (+299.4 %).

Registered accommodation sales in December were 178.7 million SEK (+134.8 million).

Registered January-December sales were 1.7 billion SEK and they increased 540.0 million euro from the previous year.
