Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased three percent

In August 2019, 488,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Gothenburg (+3.1 %), of which 311,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 177,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased four percent and registered foreign bed nights increased two percent. In total, registered bed nights increased three percent from last year's August.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Norway (28,300 nights).

142,000 rooms (+12.7 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 103,000 rooms (-3.8 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 2.1 million registered bed nights (+5.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 966,000 (-0.2 %) for foreigners in Gothenburg, in total 3.1 million (+3.5 %) registered nights.

Market share 5.5 percent

Total of 8.9 million registered bed nights (+3.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 6.1 million nights (+4.0 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 2.8 million nights (+3.0 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Gothenburg out of total registered bed nights was 5.5 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 5.1 % and foreign bed nights 6.4 %.

Length of stay increased three percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. In Gothenburg, length of stay in August was on average 1.9 nights and in Sweden 2.2 nights (+0.4 %).

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Gothenburg on average 1.8 nights (+1.0 %) and foreigners 2.3 nights (+4.8 %).

254,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased less than one percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 69.3 percent were domestic, and 30.7 percent were from foreign countries.

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Gothenburg on average 1.8 nights (-0.03) and foreigners 2.3 nights (+0.25).

334,000 air travelers

The airport received a total of 334,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased two percent.

Of local passengers, 85.7 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 14.3 %.

In addition, there were 295,000 passengers departing the airport (-1.0 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 629,000 (-1.4 %).

Registered January-August sales were 2.1 billion crowns and they increased 61.8 million crowns from the previous year.
