Registered bed nights increased 11 percent

In January 2020, 280,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Gothenburg (+10.6 %), of which 208,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 72,800 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 13 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased five percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 11 percent from last year's January.

80,700 rooms (+12.4 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 106,000 rooms (+5.3 %) by business visitors.

Market share 7.3 percent

Total of 3.9 million registered bed nights (+2.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 3.1 million nights (+2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 797,000 nights (-0.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Gothenburg out of total registered bed nights was 7.3 % (+0.6 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 6.8 % and foreign bed nights 9.1 %.

Length of stay was 1.7 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased four percent compared to earlier year. In Gothenburg, length of stay in January was on average 1.7 nights and in Sweden 2.3 nights (-2.0 %).

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Gothenburg on average 1.6 nights and foreigners 2.0 nights .

164,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 15 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 77.4 percent were domestic, and 22.6 percent were from foreign countries.

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Gothenburg on average 1.6 nights (-0.07) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-0.07).

234,000 air travelers

The airport received a total of 234,000 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased two percent.

Of local passengers, 83.5 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 16.5 %.

In addition, there were 207,000 passengers departing the airport (-2.9 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 440,000 (-2.3 %).
