Haparanda: Tourism in a nutshell

18,800 bed nights in paid accommodation
Total of 18,800 bed nights (+53.2 %) were recorded in paid accommodation in Haparanda in August 2022. This figure includes bed nights at registered establishments as well as at AirBnB and Vrbo. The share of registered bed nights was 96 % and non-registered 3.7 %.
Between January and August, the number of paid bed nights was 89,600 (+72.3 %). Share of registered was 97 % and non-registered 3.0 %.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, holiday villages, youth hostels and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 9 beds or 5 rooms are excluded. Non-registered bed nights statistics include bed nights from AirBnB and Vrbo.
Registered bed nights increased 50 percent
In August 2022, 18,100 registered bed nights were recorded in Haparanda (+50.4 %), of which 14,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,800 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 41 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 103 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 50 percent from last year's August.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Norway (1,700 nights).
3,500 rooms (+1.9 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 1,900 rooms (+13.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 60,300 registered bed nights (+38.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 26,600 (+264.1 %) for foreigners in Haparanda, in total 86,900 (+71.0 %) registered nights.

7,200 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased nine percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 71.0 percent were domestic, and 29.0 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Haparanda on average 2.8 nights (+0.98) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.03).

Accommodation sales 6.9 million crowns
Total accommodation sales in August were 6.9 million crowns (+1.8 million). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 1.0 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 6.8 million crowns (+1.8 million) and non-registered sales 70,600 crowns (+39,200).
Total January-August sales were 38.2 million crowns and they increased 17.2 million crowns from the previous year.
