Helsinki Metropolitan Area: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased three percent
In March 2019, 427,000 bed nights were recorded in Helsinki Metropolitan Area (+3.5 %), of which 238,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 188,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 11 percent and foreign bed nights decreased five percent. In total, bed nights increased three percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (17,300 nights).
201,000 nights (+7.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 225,000 nights (+0.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 682,000 bed nights (+10.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 558,000 (-4.2 %) for foreigners in Helsinki Metropolitan Area, in total 1.2 million (+3.2 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Market share 23.0 percent
Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Helsinki Metropolitan Area out of total bed nights was 23.0 % (+1.3 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 18.4 % and foreign bed nights 33.3 %.
260,000 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 59.1 percent were domestic, and 40.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.6 nights (+0.02) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.09).

Accommodation sales 31.4 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in March were 31.4 million euro (+2.8 million).
Registered January-March sales were 88.8 million euro and they increased 5.9 million euro from the previous year.
