Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased six percent

In January 2018, 402,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Helsinki Metropolitan Area (+5.9 %), of which 198,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 205,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased one percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 14 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased six percent from last year's January.

187,000 nights (+5.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 215,000 nights (+6.1 %) by business visitors.

Market share 26.4 percent

Total of 1.5 million registered bed nights (+3.5 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 856,000 nights (+0.8 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 671,000 nights (+7.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Helsinki Metropolitan Area out of total registered bed nights was 26.4 % (+0.6 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 23.1 % and foreign bed nights 30.5 %.

Length of stay increased one percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased one percent compared to earlier year. In Helsinki Metropolitan Area, length of stay in January was on average 1.6 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (-0.3 %).

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.5 nights and foreigners 1.8 nights .

246,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 54.2 percent were domestic, and 45.8 percent were from foreign countries.

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.5 nights (+0.01) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.03).
