Paid bed nights

412,000 registered bed nights

In March 2018, 412,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Helsinki Metropolitan Area (+0.2 %), of which 214,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 199,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased three percent and registered foreign bed nights increased four percent. In total, registered bed nights increased less than one percent from last year's March.

188,000 nights (+4.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 225,000 nights (-3.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and March, 619,000 registered bed nights (-1.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 582,000 (+10.4 %) for foreigners in Helsinki Metropolitan Area, in total 1.2 million (+3.9 %) registered nights.

Market share 21.7 percent

Total of 1.9 million registered bed nights (+5.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (+4.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 574,000 nights (+7.7 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Helsinki Metropolitan Area out of total registered bed nights was 21.7 % (-1.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 16.1 % and foreign bed nights 34.6 %.

Length of stay increased two percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased two percent compared to earlier year. In Helsinki Metropolitan Area, length of stay in March was on average 1.7 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (-0.6 %).

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.5 nights (+1.7 %) and foreigners 1.9 nights (+1.1 %).

247,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased two percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 56.6 percent were domestic, and 43.4 percent were from foreign countries.

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.5 nights (+0.04) and foreigners 1.9 nights (-0.01).
