Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased one percent

In December 2018, 438,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Helsinki Metropolitan Area (+1.2 %), of which 214,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 224,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased three percent and registered foreign bed nights increased six percent. In total, registered bed nights increased one percent from last year's December.

234,000 nights (+4.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 204,000 nights (-1.9 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 2.8 million registered bed nights (+0.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 2.9 million (+1.4 %) for foreigners in Helsinki Metropolitan Area, in total 5.8 million (+0.8 %) registered nights.

Market share 25.0 percent

Total of 1.8 million registered bed nights (+3.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 967,000 nights (-0.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 789,000 nights (+7.1 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Helsinki Metropolitan Area out of total registered bed nights was 25.0 % (-0.4 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 22.2 % and foreign bed nights 28.4 %.

Length of stay increased two percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased two percent compared to earlier year. In Helsinki Metropolitan Area, length of stay in December was on average 1.6 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (+1.4 %).

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.5 nights (+1.9 %) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.3 %).

268,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 54.1 percent were domestic, and 45.9 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.5 nights (+0.03) and foreigners 1.8 nights (+0.02).

Accommodation sales 31.7 million euro

Registered accommodation sales in December were 31.7 million euro (+3.7 million).

Registered January-December sales were 412.5 million euro and they increased 6.8 million euro from the previous year.
