Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased six percent

In April 2019, 435,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Helsinki Metropolitan Area (+6.4 %), of which 239,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 195,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 10 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased two percent. In total, registered bed nights increased six percent from last year's April.

216,000 nights (+19.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 219,000 nights (-4.3 %) by business visitors.

Between January and April, 921,000 registered bed nights (+10.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 754,000 (-2.6 %) for foreigners in Helsinki Metropolitan Area, in total 1.7 million (+4.0 %) registered nights.

Market share 27.5 percent

Total of 1.6 million registered bed nights (+2.5 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+4.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 356,000 nights (-3.4 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Helsinki Metropolitan Area out of total registered bed nights was 27.5 % (+1.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 19.6 % and foreign bed nights 54.9 %.

Length of stay was 1.7 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased less than one percent compared to earlier year. In Helsinki Metropolitan Area, length of stay in April was on average 1.7 nights and in Finland 1.9 nights (-0.4 %).

During April, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.5 nights (+2.0 %) and foreigners 1.9 nights (-2.6 %).

260,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased seven percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 59.9 percent were domestic, and 40.1 percent were from foreign countries.

During April, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.5 nights (+0.02) and foreigners 1.9 nights (-0.03).

Registered accommodation sales in April were 29.9 million euro (+687,000).

Registered January-April sales were 118.7 million euro and they increased 6.6 million euro from the previous year.
