Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased five percent

In May 2019, 526,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Helsinki Metropolitan Area (+5.2 %), of which 268,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 258,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased four percent and registered foreign bed nights increased seven percent. In total, registered bed nights increased five percent from last year's May.

243,000 nights (+5.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 282,000 nights (+5.4 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 1.2 million registered bed nights (+8.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1.0 million (-0.3 %) for foreigners in Helsinki Metropolitan Area, in total 2.2 million (+4.3 %) registered nights.

Market share 33.4 percent

Total of 1.6 million registered bed nights (+6.9 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.1 million nights (+4.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 465,000 nights (+13.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Helsinki Metropolitan Area out of total registered bed nights was 33.4 % (-0.5 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 24.1 % and foreign bed nights 55.4 %.

Length of stay was 1.7 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased less than one percent compared to earlier year. In Helsinki Metropolitan Area, length of stay in May was on average 1.7 nights and in Finland 1.8 nights (+2.1 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.5 nights (+1.9 %) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-2.3 %).

316,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 55.3 percent were domestic, and 44.7 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.5 nights (+0.02) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.03).

Registered January-May sales were 162.0 million euro and they increased 10.3 million euro from the previous year.
