49,500 registered bed nights

In May 2020, 49,500 registered bed nights were recorded in Helsinki Metropolitan Area (-90.6 %), of which 42,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 7,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 84 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 97 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 91 percent from last year's May.

12,200 nights (-95.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 37,300 nights (-86.8 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 691,000 registered bed nights (-41.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 465,000 (-54.0 %) for foreigners in Helsinki Metropolitan Area, in total 1.2 million (-47.4 %) registered nights.

Market share 16.5 percent

Total of 300,000 registered bed nights (-81.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 280,000 nights (-74.7 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 19,500 nights (-95.8 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Helsinki Metropolitan Area out of total registered bed nights was 16.5 % (-16.9 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 15.2 % and foreign bed nights 35.8 %.

Length of stay increased 105 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 105 percent compared to earlier year. In Helsinki Metropolitan Area, length of stay in May was on average 3.4 nights and in Finland 2.5 nights (+43.7 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 3.4 nights (+11.1 %) and foreigners 3.8 nights (+2.1 %).

14,500 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 95 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 87.4 percent were domestic, and 12.6 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 3.4 nights (+1.8) and foreigners 3.8 nights (+2.0).
