Paid bed nights

116,000 registered bed nights

In January 2021, 116,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Helsinki Metropolitan Area (-74.1 %), of which 93,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 22,500 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 61 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 89 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 74 percent from last year's January.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Estonia (5,200 nights).

54,200 nights (-74.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 61,400 nights (-73.4 %) by business visitors.

Market share 16.9 percent

Total of 685,000 registered bed nights (-59.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 633,000 nights (-33.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 51,900 nights (-92.7 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Helsinki Metropolitan Area out of total registered bed nights was 16.9 % (-9.8 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 14.7 % and foreign bed nights 43.2 %.

Length of stay increased 19 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 19 percent compared to earlier year. In Helsinki Metropolitan Area, length of stay in January was on average 2.0 nights and in Finland 2.2 nights (+12.1 %).

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.9 nights and foreigners 2.4 nights .

59,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 78 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 84.0 percent were domestic, and 16.0 percent were from foreign countries.

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki Metropolitan Area on average 1.9 nights (+0.36) and foreigners 2.4 nights (+0.57).
