Paid bed nights

80,700 registered bed nights

In February 2021, 80,700 registered bed nights were recorded in Helsinki (-72.8 %), of which 70,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 10,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 58 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 92 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 73 percent from last year's February.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Estonia (1,500 nights).

43,800 nights (-70.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 36,900 nights (-75.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and February, 132,000 registered bed nights (-59.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 21,300 (-92.7 %) for foreigners in Helsinki, in total 153,000 (-75.3 %) registered nights.

Market share 8.9 percent

Total of 903,000 registered bed nights (-51.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 845,000 nights (-31.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 58,700 nights (-90.4 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Helsinki out of total registered bed nights was 8.9 % (-7.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 8.4 % and foreign bed nights 17.0 %.

Comparison of registered bed nights between regions

Length of stay increased three percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. In Helsinki, length of stay in February was on average 1.7 nights and in Finland 2.2 nights (+10.9 %).

During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki on average 1.6 nights (+8.6 %) and foreigners 2.5 nights (+28.1 %).

47,200 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 74 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 91.5 percent were domestic, and 8.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Helsinki on average 1.6 nights (+0.08) and foreigners 2.5 nights (+0.67).

11,000 international congress guests in 2020

The number of international congress quests decreased 87 percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 75 congresses organized (-320) in 2020.

70,900 air travelers

The airport received a total of 70,900 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 93 percent. 14,500 travelers were transferring planes (-95.0 %) and 56,400 were local passengers (-92.4 %).

Of local passengers, 58.2 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 41.8 %. For transferring passengers, the share of travelers arriving from abroad was 89.6 %.

In addition, there were 43,500 passengers departing the airport (-90.6 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 114,000 (-92.4 %).

48,700 passengers by ferries

There were 48,700 arriving passengers by ferries. In total, the arrivals to port decreased 87 percent. The number of departing passengers was 55,200 (-85.4 %). Most arrivals were from Estonia (46,800 arrivals).

Registered January-February sales were 8.5 million euro and they decreased 36.6 million euro from the previous year.
