Joensuu Region: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased two percent
In November 2019, 19,900 bed nights were recorded in Joensuu Region (+2.4 %), of which 16,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,300 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased one percent and foreign bed nights increased 10 percent. In total, bed nights increased two percent from last year's November.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Belarus (620 nights).
10,500 nights (+15.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 9,400 nights (-9.0 %) by business visitors.
Between January and November, 227,000 bed nights (+1.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 39,100 (-4.6 %) for foreigners in Joensuu Region, in total 266,000 (+0.7 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

13,200 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 89.9 percent were domestic, and 10.1 percent were from foreign countries.
During November, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu Region on average 1.4 nights (-0.01) and foreigners 2.4 nights (-0.15).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 16 percent
A total of 289,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.3 percent.

Russian visa applications decreased six percent
There was a total of 55,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 76.9 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 1.4 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in November were 1.4 million euro (+47,500).
Registered January-November sales were 16.3 million euro and they increased 477,000 euro from the previous year.
