Registered bed nights increased 150 percent (May)
In May 2021, 13,200 registered bed nights were recorded in Joensuu Region (+149.9 %), of which 12,900 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 290 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 159 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased less than one percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 150 percent from last year's May.
7,200 nights (+155.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,100 nights (+143.5 %) by business visitors.
Between January and May, 45,600 registered bed nights (-4.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1,700 (-85.4 %) for foreigners in Joensuu Region, in total 47,300 (-19.7 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

8,300 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (May)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 210 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 98.2 percent were domestic, and 1.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu Region on average 1.6 nights (-0.3) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-2.5).

The airport received a total of 260 passengers.
Of local passengers, 6.2 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 93.8 %.
In addition, there were 230 passengers departing the airport, therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 490.

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 43 percent
A total of 29,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 69.4 percent.

There was a total of 2,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 55.1 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
