Joensuu Region: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased six percent
In August 2019, 32,900 bed nights were recorded in Joensuu Region (+5.8 %), of which 25,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 7,600 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased three percent and foreign bed nights increased 51 percent. In total, bed nights increased six percent from last year's August.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from China (1,600 nights).
21,500 nights (+9.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 11,500 nights (-0.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 171,000 bed nights (+1.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 29,800 (-8.4 %) for foreigners in Joensuu Region, in total 201,000 (-0.0 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

19,300 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 85.4 percent were domestic, and 14.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu Region on average 1.5 nights (-0.06) and foreigners 2.7 nights (+0.65).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 13 percent
A total of 348,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 92.3 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 45 percent
There was a total of 90,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.3 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 1.8 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in August were 1.8 million euro (+41,300).
Registered January-August sales were 11.7 million euro and they increased 7,500 euro from the previous year.
