Joensuu Region: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased four percent
In June 2019, 27,400 bed nights were recorded in Joensuu Region (+4.3 %), of which 24,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,100 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased six percent and foreign bed nights decreased seven percent. In total, bed nights increased four percent from last year's June.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (740 nights).
18,300 nights (+3.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 9,100 nights (+5.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and June, 106,000 bed nights (+1.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 18,000 (-22.1 %) for foreigners in Joensuu Region, in total 124,000 (-2.6 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

16,800 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased two percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 89.7 percent were domestic, and 10.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu Region on average 1.6 nights (+0.05) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.03).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased one percent
A total of 281,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.3 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 10 percent
There was a total of 72,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.0 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 1.6 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in June were 1.6 million euro (+73,100).
Registered January-June sales were 7.9 million euro and they decreased 112,000 euro from the previous year.
