Registered bed nights increased four percent (August)
In August 2021, 28,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Joensuu Region (+4.4 %), of which 25,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,200 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased three percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 20 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased four percent from last year's August.
19,200 nights (-2.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,800 nights (+23.6 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 136,000 registered bed nights (+2.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 5,900 (-60.5 %) for foreigners in Joensuu Region, in total 142,000 (-3.9 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

16,800 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (August)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased two percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 93.4 percent were domestic, and 6.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu Region on average 1.6 nights (+0.06) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-0.7).

The airport received a total of 630 passengers.
Of local passengers, 0.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 99.4 %.

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 40 percent
A total of 33,400 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
