Registered bed nights increased 21 percent
In August 2021, 32,400 registered bed nights were recorded in Joensuu Region (+20.7 %), of which 30,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,300 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 20 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 26 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 21 percent from last year's August.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (880 nights).
23,800 nights (+20.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,600 nights (+20.7 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 157,000 registered bed nights (+18.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 6,000 (-59.6 %) for foreigners in Joensuu Region, in total 163,000 (+10.3 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

19,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 16 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 94.1 percent were domestic, and 5.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu Region on average 1.7 nights (+0.09) and foreigners 2.1 nights (-0.65).
460 air travelers (Joensuu)
The airport received a total of 460 passengers.
Of local passengers, 1.8 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 98.2 %.
In addition, there were 550 passengers departing the airport, therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 1,000.

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 51 percent
A total of 37,200 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Russian visa applications increased 290 percent
There was a total of 2,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 56.8 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 2.2 million euro
Total accommodation sales in August were 2.2 million euro (+378,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 17.6 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.8 million euro (+455,000) and non-registered sales 388,000 euro (-77,300).
Total January-August sales were 11.3 million euro and they decreased 430,000 euro from the previous year.
