Registered bed nights increased 14 percent

In February 2020, 16,800 bed nights were recorded in Joensuu (+13.5 %), of which 14,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 17 percent and foreign bed nights decreased five percent. In total, bed nights increased 14 percent from last year's February.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (470 nights).

9,200 nights (+41.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,600 nights (-8.2 %) by business visitors.

Between January and February, 25,400 bed nights (+9.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 4,800 (-6.7 %) for foreigners in Joensuu, in total 30,200 (+6.5 %) nights.

Market share 0.9 percent

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (+7.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 611,000 nights (+1.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Joensuu out of total bed nights was 0.9 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.2 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.

11,100 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 14 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 90.9 percent were domestic, and 9.1 percent were from foreign countries.

During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu on average 1.5 nights (+0.01) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-0.1).

4,300 air travelers

The airport received a total of 4,300 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased seven percent.

Of local passengers, 0.5 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 99.5 %.

In addition, there were 4,400 passengers departing the airport (-1.4 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 8,700 (-4.1 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 36 percent

A total of 255,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 91.5 percent.

There was a total of 51,600 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 83.4 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 1.2 million euro

Registered accommodation sales in February were 1.2 million euro (+154,000).

Registered January-February sales were 2.2 million euro and they increased 168,000 euro from the previous year.
