Registered bed nights increased 18 percent

In December 2022, 13,300 registered bed nights were recorded in Joensuu (+17.9 %), of which 11,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,300 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased three percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 300 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 18 percent from last year's December.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (400 nights).

6,800 nights (+3.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,500 nights (+38.1 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 178,000 registered bed nights (+24.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 22,500 (+174.9 %) for foreigners in Joensuu, in total 200,000 (+32.4 %) registered nights.

Market share 0.7 percent

Total of 1.8 million registered bed nights (+11.8 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.1 million nights (+5.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 731,000 nights (+23.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Joensuu out of total registered bed nights was 0.7 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.0 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.

8,100 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 94.3 percent were domestic, and 5.7 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu on average 1.4 nights (+0.06) and foreigners 5.0 nights (+2.9).

980 air travelers

The airport received a total of 980 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 41 percent.

Of local passengers, 0.5 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 99.5 %.

In addition, there were 1,300 passengers departing the airport (+91.7 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 2,300 (+65.7 %).

Accommodation sales 1.2 million euro

Total accommodation sales in December were 1.2 million euro (+349,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 7.9 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.1 million euro (+309,000) and non-registered sales 95,000 euro (+40,300).

Total January-December sales were 17.5 million euro and they increased 5.6 million euro from the previous year.
