Joensuu: Tourism in a nutshell
2,400 registered bed nights
In April 2020, 2,400 bed nights were recorded in Joensuu (-81.1 %), of which 1,900 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 450 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 82 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 72 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 81 percent from last year's April.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Latvia (300 nights).
680 nights (-88.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 1,700 nights (-74.7 %) by business visitors.
Between January and April, 32,500 bed nights (-31.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 8,900 (-13.4 %) for foreigners in Joensuu, in total 41,500 (-28.3 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 88 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 95.5 percent were domestic, and 4.5 percent were from foreign countries.
During April, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu on average 2.1 nights (+0.61) and foreigners 10 nights (+8.4).

20,100 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 20,100 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 63.1 percent.

There was a total of 8,600 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 92.3 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 271,000 euro
Total accommodation sales in April were 271,000 euro (-612,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 22.1 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 211,000 euro (-642,000) and non-registered sales 60,100 euro (+29,900).
Total January-April sales were 3.5 million euro and they decreased 764,000 euro from the previous year.
