Joensuu: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased one percent
In October 2019, 15,500 bed nights were recorded in Joensuu (+1.1 %), of which 13,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,500 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased three percent and foreign bed nights increased 28 percent. In total, bed nights increased one percent from last year's October.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (740 nights).
6,400 nights (-0.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 9,100 nights (+2.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and October, 156,000 bed nights (+4.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 28,100 (-7.4 %) for foreigners in Joensuu, in total 184,000 (+2.2 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

10,300 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased three percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 87.5 percent were domestic, and 12.5 percent were from foreign countries.
During October, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu on average 1.4 nights (+0.04) and foreigners 2.0 nights (+0.23).
570 international congress guests in 2018
The number of international congress quests increased 155 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 10 congresses organized (+7.0) in 2018.
7,300 air travelers
The airport received a total of 7,300 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 21 percent.
Of local passengers, 29.5 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 70.5 %.
In addition, there were 7,100 passengers departing the airport (+17.3 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 14,300 (+19.2 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 14 percent
A total of 275,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.4 percent.

There was a total of 64,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.6 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 1.2 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in October were 1.2 million euro (+111,000).
Registered January-October sales were 12.4 million euro and they increased 428,000 euro from the previous year.
