Joensuu: Tourism in a nutshell
13,500 registered bed nights
In January 2019, 13,500 bed nights were recorded in Joensuu (-3.0 %), of which 10,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased two percent and foreign bed nights decreased six percent. In total, bed nights decreased three percent from last year's January.
5,500 nights (-6.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,000 nights (-0.3 %) by business visitors.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.5 million bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 869,000 nights (+1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 675,000 nights (+0.6 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Joensuu out of total bed nights was 0.9 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.2 % and foreign bed nights 0.4 %.
8,600 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased nine percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 81.1 percent were domestic, and 18.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu on average 1.5 nights (+0.11) and foreigners 1.9 nights (+0.01).
570 international congress guests in 2018
The number of international congress quests increased 155 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 10 congresses organized (+7.0) in 2018.
4,300 air travelers
The airport received a total of 4,300 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 18 percent.
Of local passengers, 0.2 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 99.8 %.
In addition, there were 4,500 passengers departing the airport (+12.2 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 8,700.

262,000 Russian travelers via eastern border
A total of 262,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 80.1 percent.
