Joensuu: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased three percent
In June 2019, 19,500 bed nights were recorded in Joensuu (+3.0 %), of which 17,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,300 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased five percent and foreign bed nights decreased 12 percent. In total, bed nights increased three percent from last year's June.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (440 nights).
11,300 nights (+2.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,300 nights (+4.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and June, 80,100 bed nights (+4.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 14,800 (-23.6 %) for foreigners in Joensuu, in total 94,900 (-1.2 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

13,100 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 90.2 percent were domestic, and 9.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Joensuu on average 1.5 nights (+0.04) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.03).
570 international congress guests in 2018
The number of international congress quests increased 155 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 10.0 congresses organized (+7.0) in 2018.
5,200 air travelers
The airport received a total of 5,200 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 22 percent.
Of local passengers, 11.8 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 88.2 %.
In addition, there were 5,000 passengers departing the airport (+17.1 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 10,200 (+19.6 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased one percent
A total of 281,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.3 percent.

There was a total of 72,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.0 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 1.3 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in June were 1.3 million euro (+37,100).
Registered January-June sales were 6.7 million euro and they decreased 107,000 euro from the previous year.
