Kainuu: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered accommodation. All changes are relative to the same period a year ago.
Registered bed nights increased 22 percent
In June 2021, 94,500 registered bed nights were recorded in Kainuu (+21.5 %), of which 93,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,500 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 21 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 24 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 22 percent from last year's June.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Estonia (470 nights).
83,900 nights (+20.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 10,600 nights (+30.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and June, 425,000 registered bed nights (+24.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 14,500 (-50.6 %) for foreigners in Kainuu, in total 439,000 (+18.7 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

31,700 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 28 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 99.2 percent were domestic, and 0.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kainuu on average 3.0 nights (-0.15) and foreigners 6.2 nights (+0.65).

The airport received a total of 690 passengers.
Of local passengers, 0.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 100.0 %.
In addition, there were 660 passengers departing the airport, therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 1,400.

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 43 percent
A total of 29,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 69.4 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 370 percent
There was a total of 2,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 55.1 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 3.7 million euro
Registered accommodation sales in June were 3.7 million euro (+961,000).
Registered January-June sales were 19.2 million euro and they increased 3.2 million euro from the previous year.
