Kainuu: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased eight percent (February)
In February 2020, 105,000 bed nights were recorded in Kainuu (+8.0 %), of which 99,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,900 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 13 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 37 percent. In total, bed nights increased eight percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,500 nights).
95,700 nights (+9.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 9,200 nights (-8.6 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 160,000 bed nights (+14.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 24,700 (-23.2 %) for foreigners in Kainuu, in total 185,000 (+7.6 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+7.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 613,000 nights (+1.9 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Kainuu out of total bed nights was 5.7 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 8.0 % and foreign bed nights 1.0 %.

32,700 tourists arrived to accommodation (February)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 20 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 93.3 percent were domestic, and 6.7 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kainuu on average 3.2 nights (-0.2) and foreigners 2.7 nights (-2.7).
1,800 air travelers (Kajaani)
The airport received a total of 1,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 59 percent.
Of local passengers, 0.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 100.0 %.
In addition, there were 1,500 passengers departing the airport (-64.8 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 3,300.

Registered accommodation sales in February were 4.6 million euro (-665,000).
Registered January-February sales were 8.3 million euro and they decreased 610,000 euro from the previous year.
