Kainuu: Tourism in a nutshell

56,900 registered bed nights (November)
In November 2021, 56,900 registered bed nights were recorded in Kainuu (-2.2 %), of which 52,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 4,500 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased two percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased one percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased two percent from last year's November.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Ukraine (1,700 nights).
47,900 nights (-1.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,900 nights (-5.8 %) by business visitors.
Between January and November, 863,000 registered bed nights (+13.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 32,800 (-23.8 %) for foreigners in Kainuu, in total 896,000 (+11.6 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

19,600 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (November)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 21 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 94.0 percent were domestic, and 6.0 percent were from foreign countries.
During November, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kainuu on average 2.8 nights (-0.51) and foreigners 3.9 nights (-14).
1,500 air travelers (Kajaani)
The airport received a total of 1,500 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 670 percent.
Of local passengers, 0.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 100.0 %.
In addition, there were 1,400 passengers departing the airport (+852.7 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 2,800 (+747.6 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 48 percent (November)

Russian visa applications increased 1,300 percent
There was a total of 9,300 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 79.7 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 3.1 million euro (November)
Registered accommodation sales in November were 3.1 million euro (+272,000).
Registered January-November sales were 39.5 million euro and they increased 5.7 million euro from the previous year.
