Registered bed nights increased three percent

In October 2019, 81,600 registered bed nights were recorded in Kainuu (+2.9 %), of which 78,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,800 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased six percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 44 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased three percent from last year's October.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (700 nights).

72,700 nights (+33.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 8,900 nights (-64.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and October, 772,000 registered bed nights (+6.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 83,200 (-3.2 %) for foreigners in Kainuu, in total 855,000 (+5.0 %) registered nights.

Market share 4.9 percent

Total of 1.7 million registered bed nights (+7.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+5.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 436,000 nights (+12.5 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kainuu out of total registered bed nights was 4.9 % (-0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 6.4 % and foreign bed nights 0.7 %.

25,500 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 97.5 percent were domestic, and 2.5 percent were from foreign countries.

During October, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kainuu on average 3.2 nights (-0.02) and foreigners 4.4 nights (-1.4).

3,900 air travelers (Kajaani)

The airport received a total of 3,900 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 13 percent.

Of local passengers, 13.8 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 86.2 %.

In addition, there were 4,000 passengers departing the airport (-11.2 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 7,900 (-12.3 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 14 percent

A total of 275,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 91.4 percent.

There was a total of 64,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.6 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Accommodation sales 3.3 million euro

Registered accommodation sales in October were 3.3 million euro (+1.6 million).

Registered January-October sales were 38.7 million euro and they increased 16.7 million euro from the previous year.
