Kajaani: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased two percent (February)
In February 2020, 9,600 bed nights were recorded in Kajaani (+2.0 %), of which 9,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 440 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased eight percent and foreign bed nights decreased 54 percent. In total, bed nights increased two percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Estonia (144 nights).
6,000 nights (+16.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,600 nights (-15.7 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 16,100 bed nights (+11.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1,700 (-16.0 %) for foreigners in Kajaani, in total 17,800 (+8.2 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+7.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 613,000 nights (+1.9 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Kajaani out of total bed nights was 0.5 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.7 % and foreign bed nights 0.1 %.
6,900 tourists arrived to accommodation (February)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 13 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 96.3 percent were domestic, and 3.7 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kajaani on average 1.4 nights (-0.16) and foreigners 1.7 nights (+0.11).

The airport received a total of 1,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 59 percent.

Accommodation sales 574,000 euro (February)
Total accommodation sales in February were 574,000 euro (+15,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 3.7 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 554,000 euro (+4,300) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 20,700 euro (+10,600).
Total January-February sales were 1.1 million euro and they increased 84,700 euro from the previous year.
