Kalajoki: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 30 percent (February)
In February 2020, 8,600 bed nights were recorded in Kalajoki (+29.6 %), of which 7,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 860 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 21 percent and foreign bed nights increased 310 percent. In total, bed nights increased 30 percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (430 nights).
5,500 nights (+15.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,000 nights (+65.7 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 11,500 bed nights (+20.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1,300 (+169.6 %) for foreigners in Kalajoki, in total 12,900 (+28.0 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+7.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 613,000 nights (+1.9 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Kalajoki out of total bed nights was 0.5 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.6 % and foreign bed nights 0.1 %.
4,400 tourists arrived to accommodation (February)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 25 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 97.5 percent were domestic, and 2.5 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kalajoki on average 1.8 nights (-0.05) and foreigners 7.9 nights (+4.6).

Accommodation sales 374,000 euro (February)
Total accommodation sales in February were 374,000 euro (+126,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 11.0 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 337,000 euro (+99,700) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 37,000 euro (+26,100).
Total January-February sales were 560,000 euro and they increased 182,000 euro from the previous year.
