Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased six percent

In August 2019, 93,400 registered bed nights were recorded in Karlstad (+6.1 %), of which 63,900 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 29,500 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased nine percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased less than one percent. In total, registered bed nights increased six percent from last year's August.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Norway (9,800 nights).

17,900 rooms (-2.8 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 16,000 rooms (+5.6 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 372,000 registered bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 174,000 (+10.4 %) for foreigners in Karlstad, in total 546,000 (+3.9 %) registered nights.

Total of 8.9 million registered bed nights (+3.6 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 6.1 million nights (+4.0 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 2.8 million nights (+3.0 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Karlstad out of total registered bed nights was 1.1 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.0 % and foreign bed nights 1.1 %.

Length of stay increased 43 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 43 percent compared to earlier year. In Karlstad, length of stay in August was on average 2.6 nights and in Sweden 2.2 nights (+0.4 %).

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Karlstad on average 2.7 nights (+21.2 %) and foreigners 2.4 nights (+25.6 %).

36,400 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 26 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 66.2 percent were domestic, and 33.8 percent were from foreign countries.

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Karlstad on average 2.7 nights (+0.87) and foreigners 2.4 nights (+0.58).
