Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased 18 percent

In May 2021, 30,900 registered bed nights were recorded in Karlstad (+17.8 %), of which 29,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,700 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 18 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 23 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 18 percent from last year's May.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Norway (350 nights).

3,800 rooms (+65.4 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 8,300 rooms (+58.4 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 106,000 registered bed nights (-13.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 6,800 (-65.1 %) for foreigners in Karlstad, in total 113,000 (-20.5 %) registered nights.

Total of 3.3 million registered bed nights (+46.7 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 3.0 million nights (+45.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 291,000 nights (+65.3 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Karlstad out of total registered bed nights was 0.9 % (-0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.0 % and foreign bed nights 0.6 %.

Length of stay was 3.2 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased 29 percent compared to earlier year. In Karlstad, length of stay in May was on average 3.2 nights and in Sweden 2.3 nights (-5.3 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Karlstad on average 3.1 nights (+5.7 %) and foreigners 3.8 nights (+91.5 %).

9,700 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 66 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 95.4 percent were domestic, and 4.6 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Karlstad on average 3.1 nights (-1.3) and foreigners 3.8 nights (-2.1).
