Kemi: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased one percent
In March 2019, 9,900 bed nights were recorded in Kemi (+0.6 %), of which 5,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 4,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased five percent and foreign bed nights decreased four percent. In total, bed nights increased one percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Thailand (890 nights).
5,100 nights (-16.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 4,700 nights (+29.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 11,900 bed nights (+1.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 14,900 (-0.7 %) for foreigners in Kemi, in total 26,800 (+0.0 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Kemi out of total bed nights was 0.5 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.4 % and foreign bed nights 0.8 %.
7,000 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 57.2 percent were domestic, and 42.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kemi on average 1.4 nights (+0.01) and foreigners 1.5 nights (+0.18).
3,300 air travelers
The airport received a total of 3,300 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased four percent.
Of local passengers, 0.2 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 99.8 %.
In addition, there were 3,300 passengers departing the airport (+11.4 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 6,600.

Accommodation sales 598,000 euro
Total accommodation sales in March were 598,000 euro (+92,800). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 3.7 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 577,000 euro (+78,100) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 21,100 euro (+14,700).
Total January-March sales were 1.6 million euro and they increased 134,000 euro from the previous year.
