Paid bed nights

9,700 registered bed nights

In December 2018, 9,700 registered bed nights were recorded in Kemi (-1.8 %), of which 3,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 6,200 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 25 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 19 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased two percent from last year's December.

5,500 nights (-0.3 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 4,100 nights (-3.9 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 53,600 registered bed nights (-1.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 34,800 (+7.0 %) for foreigners in Kemi, in total 88,400 (+1.7 %) registered nights.

Total of 1.8 million registered bed nights (+3.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 967,000 nights (-0.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 789,000 nights (+7.1 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kemi out of total registered bed nights was 0.6 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.4 % and foreign bed nights 0.8 %.

Length of stay increased four percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased four percent compared to earlier year. In Kemi, length of stay in December was on average 1.7 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (+1.4 %).

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kemi on average 1.5 nights (-2.6 %) and foreigners 1.8 nights (+7.2 %).

5,600 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 40.2 percent were domestic, and 59.8 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kemi on average 1.5 nights (-0.26) and foreigners 1.8 nights (+0.29).

3,800 air travelers

The airport received a total of 3,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 23 percent.

Of local passengers, 3.4 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 96.6 %.
