Registered bed nights increased 35 percent

In December 2021, 34,800 registered bed nights were recorded in Kiruna (+34.9 %), of which 22,700 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 12,100 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 55 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased eight percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 35 percent from last year's December.

10,400 rooms (+41.4 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 6,500 rooms (+38.5 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 374,000 registered bed nights (+37.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 85,000 (-25.3 %) for foreigners in Kiruna, in total 459,000 (+19.2 %) registered nights.

Market share 1.0 percent

Total of 3.4 million registered bed nights (+85.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 2.8 million nights (+74.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 553,000 nights (+166.0 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kiruna out of total registered bed nights was 1.0 % (-0.4 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.8 % and foreign bed nights 2.2 %.

15,100 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 54 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 62.6 percent were domestic, and 37.4 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kiruna on average 2.4 nights (-0.11) and foreigners 2.1 nights (-0.68).

8,400 air travelers

The airport received a total of 8,400 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 92 percent.

Of local passengers, 1.7 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 98.3 %.

In addition, there were 8,000 passengers departing the airport (+104.6 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 16,400 (+98.0 %).

Registered accommodation sales in December were 23.1 million SEK (+5.6 million).

Registered January-December sales were 267.0 million SEK and they increased 30.3 million euro from the previous year.
