Registered bed nights increased 22 percent

In May 2022, 36,800 registered bed nights were recorded in Kiruna (+21.8 %), of which 30,900 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 5,900 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 12 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 118 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 22 percent from last year's May.

10,100 rooms (+57.6 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 8,300 rooms (+31.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 172,000 registered bed nights (+21.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 79,400 (+181.8 %) for foreigners in Kiruna, in total 252,000 (+47.7 %) registered nights.

Market share 0.7 percent

Total of 5.4 million registered bed nights (+64.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 4.4 million nights (+46.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 993,000 nights (+241.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kiruna out of total registered bed nights was 0.7 % (-0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.7 % and foreign bed nights 0.6 %.

13,500 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 56 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 81.2 percent were domestic, and 18.8 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kiruna on average 2.8 nights (-0.66) and foreigners 2.3 nights (-1.4).

6,800 air travelers

The airport received a total of 6,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 131 percent.

Of local passengers, 0.1 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 99.9 %.

In addition, there were 7,000 passengers departing the airport (+112.1 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 13,800 (+121.0 %).
