Registered bed nights increased 18 percent

In January 2020, 43,400 registered bed nights were recorded in Kiruna (+18.3 %), of which 18,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 24,600 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased eight percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 28 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 18 percent from last year's January.

10,700 rooms (+32.7 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 7,700 rooms (-2.3 %) by business visitors.

Market share 1.1 percent

Total of 3.9 million registered bed nights (+2.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 3.1 million nights (+2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 797,000 nights (-0.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kiruna out of total registered bed nights was 1.1 % (+0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.6 % and foreign bed nights 3.1 %.

Length of stay increased three percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. In Kiruna, length of stay in January was on average 2.5 nights and in Sweden 2.3 nights (-2.0 %).

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kiruna on average 2.5 nights and foreigners 2.4 nights .

17,600 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 15 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 42.9 percent were domestic, and 57.1 percent were from foreign countries.

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kiruna on average 2.5 nights (-0.09) and foreigners 2.4 nights (+0.19).

11,300 air travelers

The airport received a total of 11,300 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased one percent.

Of local passengers, 2.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 97.7 %.

In addition, there were 11,900 passengers departing the airport (+1.2 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 23,200 (+1.1 %).
