17,700 registered bed nights

In May 2020, 17,700 registered bed nights were recorded in Kiruna (-45.0 %), of which 16,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,500 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 37 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 76 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased 45 percent from last year's May.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Finland (540 nights).

2,900 rooms (-55.6 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 4,200 rooms (-39.7 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 99,300 registered bed nights (-28.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 77,500 (-11.5 %) for foreigners in Kiruna, in total 177,000 (-21.7 %) registered nights.

Total of 2.2 million registered bed nights (-58.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 2.1 million nights (-49.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 176,000 nights (-86.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kiruna out of total registered bed nights was 0.8 % (+0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.8 % and foreign bed nights 0.9 %.

Length of stay increased 84 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 84 percent compared to earlier year. In Kiruna, length of stay in May was on average 5.0 nights and in Sweden 2.4 nights (+30.7 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kiruna on average 4.9 nights (+12.8 %) and foreigners 6.0 nights (+13.9 %).

3,600 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 70 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 92.8 percent were domestic, and 7.2 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kiruna on average 4.9 nights (+2.1) and foreigners 6.0 nights (+3.6).

900 air travelers

The airport received a total of 900 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 88 percent.

Of local passengers, 1.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 98.4 %.

In addition, there were 850 passengers departing the airport (-89.1 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 1,800 (-88.6 %).
