Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased 71 percent

In May 2021, 30,200 registered bed nights were recorded in Kiruna (+71.1 %), of which 27,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,700 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 70 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 78 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 71 percent from last year's May.

5,700 rooms (+98.1 %) were booked by leisure visitors and 5,600 rooms (+35.7 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 142,000 registered bed nights (+43.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 28,200 (-63.6 %) for foreigners in Kiruna, in total 171,000 (-3.6 %) registered nights.

Market share 0.9 percent

Total of 3.3 million registered bed nights (+46.7 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 3.0 million nights (+45.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 291,000 nights (+65.3 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kiruna out of total registered bed nights was 0.9 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.9 % and foreign bed nights 0.9 %.

Length of stay was 5.0 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased less than one percent compared to earlier year. In Kiruna, length of stay in May was on average 5.0 nights and in Sweden 2.3 nights (-5.3 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kiruna on average 5.0 nights (+20.6 %) and foreigners 4.9 nights (+19.9 %).

6,100 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 71 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 90.8 percent were domestic, and 9.2 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kiruna on average 5.0 nights (+0.08) and foreigners 4.9 nights (-1.1).

2,900 air travelers

The airport received a total of 2,900 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 220 percent.

Of local passengers, 0.7 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 99.3 %.

In addition, there were 3,300 passengers departing the airport (+289.1 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 6,200 (+256.3 %).
