Kittilä: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 12 percent (February)
In February 2020, 81,100 bed nights were recorded in Kittilä (+11.9 %), of which 28,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 52,700 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 25 percent and foreign bed nights increased six percent. In total, bed nights increased 12 percent from last year's February.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from United Kingdom (10,500 nights).
59,900 nights (+8.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 21,200 nights (+23.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and February, 49,800 bed nights (+29.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 107,000 (+7.9 %) for foreigners in Kittilä, in total 157,000 (+14.1 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+7.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+10.1 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 613,000 nights (+1.9 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Kittilä out of total bed nights was 4.4 % (+0.2 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.3 % and foreign bed nights 8.6 %.
20,200 tourists arrived to accommodation (February)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased seven percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 39.5 percent were domestic, and 60.5 percent were from foreign countries.
During February, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kittilä on average 3.6 nights (+0.5) and foreigners 4.3 nights (-0.01).
1,600 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests increased 750 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 3.0 congresses organized (+1.0) in 2019.
17,200 air travelers
The airport received a total of 17,200 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 51 percent.
Of local passengers, 28.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 71.7 %.
In addition, there were 23,300 passengers departing the airport (-38.3 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 40,600.

Accommodation sales 6.2 million euro (February)
Total accommodation sales in February were 6.2 million euro (+1.2 million). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 22.4 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 5.1 million euro (+825,000) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 1.1 million euro (+414,000).
Total January-February sales were 12.2 million euro and they increased 3.2 million euro from the previous year.
