Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased two percent

In December 2018, 89,600 registered bed nights were recorded in Kittilä (+1.8 %), of which 20,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 69,400 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased five percent and registered foreign bed nights increased one percent. In total, registered bed nights increased two percent from last year's December.

67,500 nights (-14.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 22,000 nights (+143.0 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 267,000 registered bed nights (-2.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 267,000 (-0.2 %) for foreigners in Kittilä, in total 534,000 (-1.4 %) registered nights.

Market share 5.1 percent

Total of 1.8 million registered bed nights (+3.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 967,000 nights (-0.2 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 789,000 nights (+7.1 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kittilä out of total registered bed nights was 5.1 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.1 % and foreign bed nights 8.8 %.

Market share in Lapland 18.3 percent

Total of 489,000 registered bed nights (+5.2 %) were recorded in Lapland, of which 90,200 nights (-5.4 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 399,000 nights (+7.9 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kittilä out of total registered bed nights in Lapland was 18.3 %, out of domestic bed nights 22.4 % and foreign bed nights 17.4 %.

Length of stay was 3.6 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased three percent compared to earlier year. In Kittilä, length of stay in December was on average 3.6 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (+1.4 %).

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kittilä on average 3.4 nights (-2.9 %) and foreigners 3.6 nights (+0.3 %).

25,200 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased four percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 23.6 percent were domestic, and 76.4 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kittilä on average 3.4 nights (+0.12) and foreigners 3.6 nights (-0.17).

The number of international congress quests increased 260 percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 2.0 congresses organized (+1.0) in 2018.

51,400 air travelers

The airport received a total of 51,400 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased six percent.

Of local passengers, 65.8 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 34.2 %.

In addition, there were 43,700 passengers departing the airport (+3.1 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 95,200 (+4.4 %).

Accommodation sales 4.8 million euro

Total accommodation sales in December were 4.8 million euro (+546,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 13.4 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 4.1 million euro (+440,000) and non-registered sales 638,000 euro (+107,000).

Total January-December sales were 30.4 million euro and they increased 3.3 million euro from the previous year.
