Paid bed nights

78,800 registered bed nights

In March 2019, 78,800 registered bed nights were recorded in Kittilä (-3.1 %), of which 42,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 36,600 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased nine percent and registered foreign bed nights increased five percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased three percent from last year's March.

56,200 nights (-16.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 22,600 nights (+63.6 %) by business visitors.

Between January and March, 80,600 registered bed nights (-8.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 135,000 (+0.8 %) for foreigners in Kittilä, in total 216,000 (-3.0 %) registered nights.

Market share 4.2 percent

Total of 1.9 million registered bed nights (-2.0 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 567,000 nights (-1.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kittilä out of total registered bed nights was 4.2 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 3.3 % and foreign bed nights 6.4 %.

Market share in Lapland 19.1 percent

Total of 412,000 registered bed nights (-0.6 %) were recorded in Lapland, of which 192,000 nights (-5.8 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 220,000 nights (+4.4 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kittilä out of total registered bed nights in Lapland was 19.1 %, out of domestic bed nights 22.0 % and foreign bed nights 16.6 %.

Length of stay was 3.3 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased six percent compared to earlier year. In Kittilä, length of stay in March was on average 3.3 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (-2.4 %).

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kittilä on average 2.9 nights (-4.0 %) and foreigners 3.8 nights (-7.6 %).

24,100 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased three percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 59.7 percent were domestic, and 40.3 percent were from foreign countries.

During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kittilä on average 2.9 nights (-0.16) and foreigners 3.8 nights (-0.45).

The number of international congress quests increased 750 percent from the previous year.

There was a total of 3.0 congresses organized (+1.0) in 2019.

35,100 air travelers

The airport received a total of 35,100 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased eight percent.

Of local passengers, 26.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 74.0 %.

In addition, there were 37,800 passengers departing the airport (+14.7 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 72,900 (+11.2 %).

Accommodation sales 6.6 million euro

Total accommodation sales in March were 6.6 million euro (+549,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 14.1 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 5.6 million euro (+269,000) and non-registered sales 928,000 euro (+280,000).

Total January-March sales were 15.4 million euro and they increased 1.2 million euro from the previous year.
