Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased 153 percent

In December 2021, 84,100 registered bed nights were recorded in Kittilä (+153.5 %), of which 29,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 54,600 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased eight percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 4,200 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 153 percent from last year's December.

60,600 nights (+143.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 23,500 nights (+182.9 %) by business visitors.

Between January and December, 291,000 registered bed nights (+40.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 72,200 (-46.4 %) for foreigners in Kittilä, in total 363,000 (+6.5 %) registered nights.

Market share 5.2 percent

Total of 1.6 million registered bed nights (+109.8 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.0 million nights (+44.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 593,000 nights (+823.7 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kittilä out of total registered bed nights was 5.2 % (+0.9 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.9 % and foreign bed nights 9.2 %.

Total of 493,000 registered bed nights (+253.4 %) were recorded in Lapland, of which 130,000 nights (+0.0 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 363,000 nights (+3,730.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kittilä out of total registered bed nights in Lapland was 17.0 %, out of domestic bed nights 22.7 % and foreign bed nights 15.0 %.

Length of stay was 3.7 nights in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased less than one percent compared to earlier year. In Kittilä, length of stay in December was on average 3.7 nights and in Finland 2.2 nights (-5.9 %).

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kittilä on average 3.4 nights (+2.8 %) and foreigners 3.8 nights (-21.3 %).

23,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 153 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 38.3 percent were domestic, and 61.7 percent were from foreign countries.

During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kittilä on average 3.4 nights (-0.28) and foreigners 3.8 nights (-0.28).

45,500 air travelers

The airport received a total of 45,500 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 510 percent.

Of local passengers, 64.6 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 35.4 %.

In addition, there were 40,000 passengers departing the airport (+593.9 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 85,400 (+544.4 %).

Accommodation sales 7.4 million euro

Total accommodation sales in December were 7.4 million euro (+4.2 million). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 25.6 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 5.5 million euro (+3.5 million) and non-registered sales 1.9 million euro (+742,000).

Total January-December sales were 28.0 million euro and they decreased 2.3 million euro from the previous year.
