Paid bed nights

Registered bed nights increased 86 percent

In May 2022, 10,700 registered bed nights were recorded in Kokkola (+86.3 %), of which 9,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 860 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 79 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 260 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 86 percent from last year's May.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (240 nights).

3,600 nights (+39.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,100 nights (+124.8 %) by business visitors.

Between January and May, 33,600 registered bed nights (+40.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 2,600 (+242.4 %) for foreigners in Kokkola, in total 36,200 (+47.2 %) registered nights.

Total of 1.5 million registered bed nights (+82.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.2 million nights (+57.9 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 319,000 nights (+345.0 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kokkola out of total registered bed nights was 0.7 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.8 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.

Length of stay increased 19 percent in registered accommodation

Length of stay in registered accommodation increased 19 percent compared to earlier year. In Kokkola, length of stay in May was on average 2.3 nights and in Finland 1.8 nights (-9.3 %).

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kokkola on average 2.2 nights (+3.3 %) and foreigners 2.7 nights (-14.2 %).

4,700 tourists arrived to registered accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 57 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 93.1 percent were domestic, and 6.9 percent were from foreign countries.

During May, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kokkola on average 2.2 nights (+0.36) and foreigners 2.7 nights (-0.52).

The airport received a total of 940 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 650 percent.

Of local passengers, 24.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 75.7 %.

In addition, there were 930 passengers departing the airport (+659.3 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 1,900 (+655.2 %).

Accommodation sales 1.0 million euro

Total accommodation sales in May were 1.0 million euro (+655,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 5.2 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 983,000 euro (+619,000) and non-registered sales 53,800 euro (+36,200).

Total January-May sales were 2.8 million euro and they increased 1.3 million euro from the previous year.
