11,600 bed nights in paid accommodation
Total of 11,600 bed nights (+16.2 %) were recorded in paid accommodation in Kotka-Hamina Region in December 2019. This figure includes bed nights at registered establishments as well as at AirBnB and Vrbo. The share of registered bed nights was 67 % and non-registered 33 %.
Between January and December, the number of paid bed nights was 205,000 (+9.7 %). Share of registered was 75 % and non-registered 25 %.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded. Non-registered bed nights statistics include bed nights from AirBnB and Vrbo.
Paid bed nights
Registered bed nights increased four percent
In December 2019, 7,700 registered bed nights were recorded in Kotka-Hamina Region (+4.1 %), of which 5,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,300 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 13 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 12 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased four percent from last year's December.
3,900 nights (+4.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,800 nights (+4.1 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 113,000 registered bed nights (+9.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 40,600 (-9.3 %) for foreigners in Kotka-Hamina Region, in total 154,000 (+3.9 %) registered nights.

Length of stay was 1.6 nights in registered accommodation
Length of stay in registered accommodation decreased 12 percent compared to earlier year. In Kotka-Hamina Region, length of stay in December was on average 1.6 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (+1.9 %).
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kotka-Hamina Region on average 1.5 nights (+3.7 %) and foreigners 1.7 nights (-10.1 %).
4,800 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 18 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 72.4 percent were domestic, and 27.6 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kotka-Hamina Region on average 1.5 nights (-0.12) and foreigners 1.7 nights (-0.42).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased six percent
A total of 311,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 92.3 percent.

Total accommodation sales in December were 583,000 euro (+10,300). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 22.3 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 453,000 euro (-11,900) and non-registered sales 130,000 euro (+22,200).
