Kotka: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased nine percent
In March 2019, 6,300 bed nights were recorded in Kotka (+9.1 %), of which 4,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,100 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased four percent and foreign bed nights increased 21 percent. In total, bed nights increased nine percent from last year's March.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (670 nights).
2,800 nights (+5.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,500 nights (+12.6 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 11,500 bed nights (+8.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 7,000 (-4.4 %) for foreigners in Kotka, in total 18,400 (+3.1 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Total of 1.9 million bed nights (-2.3 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-2.6 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 566,000 nights (-1.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Kotka out of total bed nights was 0.3 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.3 % and foreign bed nights 0.4 %.
3,400 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 73.0 percent were domestic, and 27.0 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kotka on average 1.7 nights (+0.06) and foreigners 2.2 nights (-0.03).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased seven percent
A total of 292,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 81.9 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 32 percent
There was a total of 65,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.2 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 545,000 euro
Total accommodation sales in March were 545,000 euro (+133,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 11.1 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 491,000 euro (+109,000) and Airbnb and HomeAway sales 54,500 euro (+23,300).
Total January-March sales were 1.8 million euro and they increased 566,000 euro from the previous year.
