Kotka: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased two percent
In June 2019, 13,300 bed nights were recorded in Kotka (+2.3 %), of which 10,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,600 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 10 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 21 percent. In total, bed nights increased two percent from last year's June.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (950 nights).
8,700 nights (-0.9 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 4,600 nights (+8.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and June, 34,900 bed nights (+8.5 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 13,800 (-9.2 %) for foreigners in Kotka, in total 48,700 (+2.8 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

7,900 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased two percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 81.6 percent were domestic, and 18.4 percent were from foreign countries.
During June, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kotka on average 1.7 nights (+0.03) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.06).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased one percent
A total of 281,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.3 percent.

There was a total of 72,500 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.0 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 797,000 euro
Total accommodation sales in June were 797,000 euro (+57,400). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 9.9 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 711,000 euro (+16,400) and non-registered sales 79,100 euro (+34,500).
Total January-June sales were 3.8 million euro and they increased 744,000 euro from the previous year.
