Kotka: Tourism in a nutshell
16,500 registered bed nights
In August 2019, 16,500 bed nights were recorded in Kotka (-2.8 %), of which 13,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased one percent and foreign bed nights decreased 17 percent. In total, bed nights decreased three percent from last year's August.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (1,100 nights).
10,200 nights (+3.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,400 nights (-11.8 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 65,600 bed nights (+6.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 20,500 (-9.1 %) for foreigners in Kotka, in total 86,100 (+2.4 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

9,600 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased two percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 82.9 percent were domestic, and 17.1 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kotka on average 1.7 nights (-0.04) and foreigners 1.8 nights (-0.29).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 13 percent
A total of 348,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 92.3 percent.

There was a total of 90,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.3 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 1.1 million euro
Total accommodation sales in August were 1.1 million euro (-223,000). The share of Airbnb and HomeAway was 12.7 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 938,000 euro (-299,000) and non-registered sales 137,000 euro (+72,100).
Total January-August sales were 5.9 million euro and they increased 573,000 euro from the previous year.
