Registered bed nights increased two percent (April)

In April 2023, 6,500 registered bed nights were recorded in Kotka (+2.4 %), of which 5,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 690 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 10 percent and registered foreign bed nights decreased 35 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased two percent from last year's April.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (132 nights).

3,400 nights (+24.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,000 nights (-14.8 %) by business visitors.

Between January and April, 21,000 registered bed nights (+31.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 3,500 (+67.2 %) for foreigners in Kotka, in total 24,500 (+35.8 %) registered nights.

Total of 1.5 million registered bed nights (-3.9 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (-7.7 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 261,000 nights (+20.1 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kotka out of total registered bed nights was 0.4 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.5 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.

3,800 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (April)

Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased one percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 91.8 percent were domestic, and 8.2 percent were from foreign countries.

During April, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kotka on average 1.7 nights (+0.13) and foreigners 2.2 nights (-0.36).

A total of 34,400 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Domestic visitors and their consumption (December 2022)

The number of domestic visitors in December was 38,000 (+20.7 %). Out of them 28,900 were on a daytrip and 9,100 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of domestic visitors between January and December was 581,000 (-2.3 %).

Total consumption of these visitors in Kotka in December was 2.1 million euro (54 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 881,000 euro and day visitors 1.2 million euro. Between January and December the consumption was 32.7 million euro.

Accommodation sales 571,000 euro (April)

Total accommodation sales in April were 571,000 euro (-51,800). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 13.6 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 493,000 euro (-50,000) and non-registered sales 77,500 euro (-1,800).

Total January-April sales were 2.3 million euro and they increased 621,000 euro from the previous year.
