Kotka: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased seven percent
In October 2019, 7,300 bed nights were recorded in Kotka (+6.8 %), of which 5,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,800 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 10 percent and foreign bed nights decreased three percent. In total, bed nights increased seven percent from last year's October.
2,900 nights (-2.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 4,500 nights (+14.1 %) by business visitors.
Between January and October, 78,800 bed nights (+5.3 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 24,100 (-11.0 %) for foreigners in Kotka, in total 103,000 (+0.9 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

4,500 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 14 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 80.1 percent were domestic, and 19.9 percent were from foreign countries.
During October, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kotka on average 1.5 nights (-0.08) and foreigners 2.0 nights (-0.23).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 14 percent
A total of 275,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.4 percent.

There was a total of 64,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.6 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 620,000 euro
Total accommodation sales in October were 620,000 euro (+7,300). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 13.3 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 535,000 euro (-22,400) and non-registered sales 82,100 euro (+31,600).
Total January-October sales were 7.3 million euro and they increased 417,000 euro from the previous year.
