Registered bed nights increased 34 percent (October)

In October 2021, 10,200 registered bed nights were recorded in Kouvola (+33.7 %), of which 9,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 620 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 33 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 39 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 34 percent from last year's October.

Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (230 nights).

6,000 nights (+46.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 4,300 nights (+18.8 %) by business visitors.

Between January and October, 102,000 registered bed nights (+33.0 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 5,800 (-13.7 %) for foreigners in Kouvola, in total 108,000 (+29.3 %) registered nights.

Market share 0.6 percent (October)

Total of 1.7 million registered bed nights (+47.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.5 million nights (+39.3 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 200,000 nights (+149.5 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kouvola out of total registered bed nights was 0.6 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.7 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.

6,300 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (October)

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 34 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 97.4 percent were domestic, and 2.6 percent were from foreign countries.

During October, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.6 nights (-0.02) and foreigners 3.8 nights (+0.43).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 53 percent (October)

A total of 39,300 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

There was a total of 10,100 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 77.3 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Foreign visitors and their consumption (October)

The number of foreign visitors in October was 1,100 (+23.1 %). Out of them 510 were on a daytrip and 580 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and October was 13,200 (-37.4 %).

Total consumption of these visitors in Kouvola in October was 170,000 euro (156 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 138,000 euro and day visitors 32,000 euro. Between January and October the consumption was 2.2 million euro.

Accommodation sales 650,000 euro (October)

Total accommodation sales in October were 650,000 euro (-49,900). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 22.4 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 504,000 euro (+36,800) and non-registered sales 146,000 euro (-86,700).

Total January-October sales were 6.9 million euro and they increased 755,000 euro from the previous year.
