Kouvola: Tourism in a nutshell

Registered bed nights increased 61 percent (March)
In March 2022, 7,500 registered bed nights were recorded in Kouvola (+60.8 %), of which 7,000 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 540 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 68 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased five percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 61 percent from last year's March.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Netherlands (113 nights).
4,000 nights (+97.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 3,500 nights (+32.8 %) by business visitors.
Between January and March, 16,000 registered bed nights (+34.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1,200 (-18.2 %) for foreigners in Kouvola, in total 17,200 (+29.0 %) registered nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

5,400 tourists arrived to registered accommodation (March)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 112 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 94.7 percent were domestic, and 5.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During March, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.4 nights (-0.32) and foreigners 1.9 nights (-4.1).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 19 percent
A total of 31,300 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 75.5 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 920 percent
There was a total of 11,200 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.0 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Foreign visitors and their consumption (March)
The number of foreign visitors in March was 1,200 (+232.6 %). Out of them 570 were on a daytrip and 650 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and March was 3,700 (+10.9 %).
Total consumption of these visitors in Kouvola in March was 191,000 euro (157 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 155,000 euro and day visitors 35,500 euro. Between January and March the consumption was 542,000 euro.
