Registered bed nights increased five percent

In January 2019, 7,500 bed nights were recorded in Kouvola (+5.2 %), of which 6,300 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,200 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 13 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 24 percent. In total, bed nights increased five percent from last year's January.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (800 nights).

3,300 nights (+10.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 4,300 nights (+1.8 %) by business visitors.

Total of 1.5 million bed nights (+1.1 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 869,000 nights (+1.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 675,000 nights (+0.6 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kouvola out of total bed nights was 0.5 % (0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.7 % and foreign bed nights 0.2 %.

5,000 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 85.4 percent were domestic, and 14.6 percent were from foreign countries.

During January, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.5 nights (+0.03) and foreigners 1.6 nights (-0.19).

262,000 Russian travelers via eastern border

A total of 262,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 80.1 percent.

There was a total of 34,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 82.2 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
