Kouvola: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 129 percent (April)
In April 2021, 4,600 bed nights were recorded in Kouvola (+129.3 %), of which 4,400 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 220 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 125 percent and foreign bed nights increased 260 percent. In total, bed nights increased 129 percent from last year's April.
2,600 nights (+259.1 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 2,000 nights (+57.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and April, 16,300 bed nights (+0.9 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 1,600 (-35.0 %) for foreigners in Kouvola, in total 18,000 (-3.9 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

2,700 tourists arrived to accommodation (April)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 159 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 99.0 percent were domestic, and 1.0 percent were from foreign countries.
During April, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.7 nights (-0.28) and foreigners 8.3 nights (+6.1).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 31 percent (April)
A total of 26,200 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 68.4 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 114 percent
There was a total of 1,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 36.4 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Foreign visitors and their consumption (April)
The number of foreign visitors in April was 123 (-3.7 %). Out of them 47 were on a daytrip and 77 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and April was 3,500 (-73.6 %).
Total consumption of these visitors in Kouvola in April was 6,500 euro (52 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 3,600 euro and day visitors 2,900 euro. Between January and April the consumption was 191,000 euro.

Accommodation sales 432,000 euro (April)
Total accommodation sales in April were 432,000 euro (+239,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 34.2 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 284,000 euro (+170,000) and non-registered sales 148,000 euro (+68,500).
Total January-April sales were 1.8 million euro and they increased 160,000 euro from the previous year.
