25,500 bed nights in paid accommodation (August)
Total of 25,500 bed nights (+34.7 %) were recorded in paid accommodation in Kouvola in August 2022. This figure includes bed nights at registered establishments as well as at AirBnB and Vrbo. The share of registered bed nights was 73 % and non-registered 27 %.
Between January and August, the number of paid bed nights was 131,000 (+6.9 %). Share of registered was 75 % and non-registered 25 %.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded. Non-registered bed nights statistics include bed nights from AirBnB and Vrbo.
Registered bed nights increased 41 percent (August)
In August 2022, 18,500 registered bed nights were recorded in Kouvola (+40.6 %), of which 16,600 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 2,000 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights increased 33 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 186 percent. In total, registered bed nights increased 41 percent from last year's August.
Most foreign registered bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (270 nights).
11,500 nights (+18.6 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 7,100 nights (+101.2 %) by business visitors.
Between January and August, 91,000 registered bed nights (+8.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 7,400 (+58.2 %) for foreigners in Kouvola, in total 98,300 (+11.2 %) registered nights.

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 21 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 92.2 percent were domestic, and 7.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.7 nights (+0.2) and foreigners 2.4 nights (+0.69).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 250 percent (August)
A total of 129,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

Russian visa applications increased 330 percent (June)
There was a total of 12,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.5 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Foreign visitors and their consumption (August)
The number of foreign visitors in August was 4,600 (+104.0 %). Out of them 1,900 were on a daytrip and 2,700 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and August was 18,100 (+69.4 %).
Total consumption of these visitors in Kouvola in August was 770,000 euro (167 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 653,000 euro and day visitors 117,000 euro. Between January and August the consumption was 3.0 million euro.

Accommodation sales 1.4 million euro (August)
Total accommodation sales in August were 1.4 million euro (+480,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 16.5 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.2 million euro (+468,000) and non-registered sales 228,000 euro (+12,400).
Total January-August sales were 6.8 million euro and they increased 1.1 million euro from the previous year.
