8,700 bed nights in paid accommodation
Total of 8,700 bed nights (+11.0 %) were recorded in paid accommodation in Kouvola in December 2018. This figure includes bed nights at registered establishments as well as at AirBnB and Vrbo. The share of registered bed nights was 70 % and non-registered 30 %.
Between January and December, the number of paid bed nights was 173,000 (+13.1 %). Share of registered was 78 % and non-registered 22 %.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded. Non-registered bed nights statistics include bed nights from AirBnB and Vrbo.
Paid bed nights
6,000 registered bed nights
In December 2018, 6,000 registered bed nights were recorded in Kouvola (-5.8 %), of which 5,200 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 880 nights by foreigners. Registered domestic bed nights decreased 10 percent and registered foreign bed nights increased 35 percent. In total, registered bed nights decreased six percent from last year's December.
3,600 nights (+14.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 2,500 nights (-24.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and December, 120,000 registered bed nights (-0.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 15,500 (-19.6 %) for foreigners in Kouvola, in total 135,000 (-2.8 %) registered nights.

Length of stay increased eight percent in registered accommodation
Length of stay in registered accommodation increased eight percent compared to earlier year. In Kouvola, length of stay in December was on average 1.5 nights and in Finland 2.0 nights (+1.4 %).
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.5 nights (-2.4 %) and foreigners 1.6 nights (-12.0 %).
4,000 tourists arrived to registered accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 12 percent compared to earlier year. Of all registered arrivals, 86.6 percent were domestic, and 13.4 percent were from foreign countries.
During December, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.5 nights (+0.11) and foreigners 1.6 nights (+0.05).

Total accommodation sales in December were 404,000 euro (+28,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 19.6 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 325,000 euro (-16,700) and non-registered sales 79,300 euro (+44,700).
Total January-December sales were 7.7 million euro and they increased 420,000 euro from the previous year.
