Kouvola: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 17 percent
In July 2019, 29,500 bed nights were recorded in Kouvola (+17.5 %), of which 26,500 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,000 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 14 percent and foreign bed nights increased 67 percent. In total, bed nights increased 17 percent from last year's July.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (740 nights).
24,500 nights (+20.7 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 5,100 nights (+4.1 %) by business visitors.
Between January and July, 83,400 bed nights (+17.1 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 10,700 (+17.2 %) for foreigners in Kouvola, in total 94,100 (+17.1 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

19,600 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 24 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 91.0 percent were domestic, and 9.0 percent were from foreign countries.
During July, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.5 nights (-0.1) and foreigners 1.7 nights (+0.03).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 13 percent
A total of 325,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.5 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 26 percent
There was a total of 93,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 81.0 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Foreign visitors and their consumption
The number of foreign visitors in July was 19,400. Out of them 13,300 were on a daytrip and 6,100 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and July was 72,400.
Total consumption of these visitors in Kouvola in July was 2.7 million euro (141 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 1.0 million euro and day visitors 1.7 million euro. Between January and July the consumption was 10.1 million euro.

Accommodation sales 1.4 million euro
Total accommodation sales in July were 1.4 million euro (+383,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 15.5 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.1 million euro (+288,000) and non-registered sales 211,000 euro (+94,800).
Total January-July sales were 5.5 million euro and they increased 1.2 million euro from the previous year.
