Registered bed nights increased 14 percent

In August 2019, 20,600 bed nights were recorded in Kouvola (+14.0 %), of which 17,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 3,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased nine percent and foreign bed nights increased 52 percent. In total, bed nights increased 14 percent from last year's August.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Russia (970 nights).

14,800 nights (+18.8 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 5,800 nights (+3.4 %) by business visitors.

Between January and August, 100,000 bed nights (+15.6 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 14,100 (+24.1 %) for foreigners in Kouvola, in total 115,000 (+16.6 %) nights.

Market share 0.9 percent

Total of 2.4 million bed nights (+3.9 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.6 million nights (+3.7 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 786,000 nights (+4.1 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kouvola out of total bed nights was 0.9 % (+0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 1.1 % and foreign bed nights 0.4 %.

12,800 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 11 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 85.4 percent were domestic, and 14.6 percent were from foreign countries.

During August, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.6 nights (+0.03) and foreigners 1.8 nights (+0.05).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 13 percent

A total of 348,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 92.3 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 45 percent

There was a total of 90,700 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 84.3 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Foreign visitors and their consumption

The number of foreign visitors in August was 20,800. Out of them 14,600 were on a daytrip and 6,200 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and August was 93,100.

Total consumption of these visitors in Kouvola in August was 2.9 million euro (140 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 1.0 million euro and day visitors 1.9 million euro. Between January and August the consumption was 13.0 million euro.

Accommodation sales 1.3 million euro

Total accommodation sales in August were 1.3 million euro (+366,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 16.2 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.1 million euro (+250,000) and non-registered sales 214,000 euro (+116,000).

Total January-August sales were 6.8 million euro and they increased 1.5 million euro from the previous year.
