Registered bed nights increased three percent

In September 2019, 11,500 bed nights were recorded in Kouvola (+3.2 %), of which 10,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased two percent and foreign bed nights increased 11 percent. In total, bed nights increased three percent from last year's September.

Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Germany (380 nights).

6,500 nights (+3.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 5,000 nights (+3.4 %) by business visitors.

Between January and September, 111,000 bed nights (+14.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 15,500 (+22.9 %) for foreigners in Kouvola, in total 126,000 (+15.2 %) nights.

Market share 0.6 percent

Total of 1.8 million bed nights (+5.2 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.3 million nights (+3.0 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 516,000 nights (+11.2 %) by foreigners.

The market share of Kouvola out of total bed nights was 0.6 % (-0.0 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 0.8 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.

7,300 tourists arrived to accommodation

Arrivals to registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 90.7 percent were domestic, and 9.3 percent were from foreign countries.

During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.5 nights (-0.08) and foreigners 2.0 nights (+0.35).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased six percent

A total of 251,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.

The share of southeastern border stations was 91.4 percent.

There was a total of 69,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 87.9 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.

Foreign visitors and their consumption

The number of foreign visitors in September was 9,400. Out of them 6,600 were on a daytrip and 2,800 stayed at least for one night.

The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and September was 103,000.

Total consumption of these visitors in Kouvola in September was 1.3 million euro (140 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 461,000 euro and day visitors 855,000 euro. Between January and September the consumption was 14.3 million euro.

Accommodation sales 787,000 euro

Total accommodation sales in September were 787,000 euro (+156,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 18.4 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 642,000 euro (+68,400) and non-registered sales 145,000 euro (+87,800).

Total January-September sales were 7.6 million euro and they increased 1.7 million euro from the previous year.
