Kouvola: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased three percent
In September 2019, 11,500 bed nights were recorded in Kouvola (+3.2 %), of which 10,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,400 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased two percent and foreign bed nights increased 11 percent. In total, bed nights increased three percent from last year's September.
6,500 nights (+3.0 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 5,000 nights (+3.4 %) by business visitors.
Between January and September, 111,000 bed nights (+14.2 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 15,500 (+22.9 %) for foreigners in Kouvola, in total 126,000 (+15.2 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

7,300 tourists arrived to accommodation
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased six percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 90.7 percent were domestic, and 9.3 percent were from foreign countries.
During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kouvola on average 1.5 nights (-0.08) and foreigners 2.0 nights (+0.35).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased six percent
A total of 251,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 91.4 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 82 percent
There was a total of 69,800 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 87.9 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Foreign visitors and their consumption
The number of foreign visitors in September was 4,000. Out of them 1,500 were on a daytrip and 2,600 stayed at least for one night.
The cumulative number of foreign visitors between January and September was 49,700.
Total consumption of these visitors in Kouvola in September was 210,000 euro (52 per visitor). Overnight visitors spent 119,000 euro and day visitors 90,600 euro. Between January and September the consumption was 2.6 million euro.

Accommodation sales 785,000 euro
Total accommodation sales in September were 785,000 euro (+155,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 18.2 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 642,000 euro (+68,400) and non-registered sales 143,000 euro (+86,600).
Total January-September sales were 7.6 million euro and they increased 1.7 million euro from the previous year.

There were a total of 12,800 user sessions at Kouvola marketing website in September. The share of visitors using a foreign language in their web browser was 28.4 percent out of all website visitors. The number of total user sessions increased 13 percent from last year's September.
