Kuopio: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased 450 percent (April)
In April 2021, 19,600 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (+453.7 %), of which 19,100 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 530 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased 500 percent and foreign bed nights increased 44 percent. In total, bed nights increased 450 percent from last year's April.
13,500 nights (+722.2 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 6,100 nights (+221.3 %) by business visitors.
Between January and April, 104,000 bed nights (-0.8 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 2,000 (-87.2 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 106,000 (-11.8 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

10,600 tourists arrived to accommodation (April)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased 550 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 98.8 percent were domestic, and 1.2 percent were from foreign countries.
During April, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 1.8 nights (-0.32) and foreigners 4.0 nights (+1.5).
690 air travelers
The airport received a total of 690 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals increased 350 percent.
Of local passengers, 20.5 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 79.5 %.
In addition, there were 580 passengers departing the airport (+192.4 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 1,300 (+262.0 %).

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 31 percent (April)
A total of 26,200 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 68.4 percent.

Russian visa applications increased 114 percent
There was a total of 1,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 36.4 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 1.7 million euro (April)
Total accommodation sales in April were 1.7 million euro (+879,000). The share of Airbnb and Vrbo was 31.2 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 1.2 million euro (+921,000) and non-registered sales 528,000 euro (-41,300).
Total January-April sales were 8.3 million euro and they decreased 1.5 million euro from the previous year.
