Kuopio: Tourism in a nutshell
Registered bed nights increased one percent (November)
In November 2019, 33,100 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (+1.5 %), of which 31,900 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 1,300 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights increased four percent and foreign bed nights decreased 36 percent. In total, bed nights increased one percent from last year's November.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (210 nights).
Between January and November, 454,000 bed nights (+2.4 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 54,200 (-3.3 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 508,000 (+1.7 %) nights.
18,000 nights (+9.4 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 15,200 nights (-6.5 %) by business visitors.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

Market share 2.1 percent (November)
Total of 1.6 million bed nights (+4.9 %) were recorded in the whole country, of which 1.1 million nights (+5.5 %) were spent by domestic visitors and 453,000 nights (+3.4 %) by foreigners.
The market share of Kuopio out of total bed nights was 2.1 % (-0.1 percentage points), out of domestic bed nights 2.9 % and foreign bed nights 0.3 %.

24,200 tourists arrived to accommodation (November)
Arrivals to registered accommodation increased five percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 97.2 percent were domestic, and 2.8 percent were from foreign countries.
During November, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 1.4 nights (-0.04) and foreigners 1.9 nights (+0.23).
2,000 international congress guests in 2018
The number of international congress quests increased 46 percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 33 congresses organized (+16) in 2018.
9,800 air travelers (November)
The airport received a total of 9,800 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased nine percent.
Of local passengers, 10.0 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 90.0 %.
In addition, there were 10,700 passengers departing the airport (-7.0 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 20,500.

Trips by Russian travelers over the eastern border increased 14 percent (November)
A total of 320,000 Russians arrived in Finland over the eastern border crossings.
The share of southeastern border stations was 82.3 percent.

Russian visa applications decreased six percent (November)
There was a total of 55,000 visa applications to Finland made by the Russians. 76.9 percent were done at St. Petersburg's consulate.
Accommodation sales 2.5 million euro (November)
Total accommodation sales in November were 2.5 million euro (+166,000). The share of Airbnb was 7.8 percent. Therefore, registered accommodation sales were 2.3 million euro (+93,600) and Airbnb sales 182,000 euro (+72,100).
Total January-November sales were 31.6 million euro and they increased 2.9 million euro from the previous year.
