Kuopio: Tourism in a nutshell
33,400 registered bed nights (September)
In September 2020, 33,400 bed nights were recorded in Kuopio (-16.2 %), of which 32,800 nights were spent by domestic visitors and 540 nights by foreigners. Domestic bed nights decreased 10 percent and foreign bed nights decreased 83 percent. In total, bed nights decreased 16 percent from last year's September.
Most foreign bed nights were recorded for travelers from Sweden (139 nights).
21,900 nights (-3.5 %) were spend by leisure visitors and 11,500 nights (-32.9 %) by business visitors.
Between January and September, 314,000 bed nights (-18.7 %) were recorded for domestic visitors and 19,800 (-61.0 %) for foreigners in Kuopio, in total 334,000 (-23.6 %) nights.
Registered bed nights statistics include stats for registered accommodations: hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels, holiday villages and campsites. Establishments with fewer than 20 beds or caravan lots with an electrical connection point are excluded.

19,700 tourists arrived to accommodation (September)
Arrivals to registered accommodation decreased 25 percent compared to earlier year. Of all arrivals, 98.8 percent were domestic, and 1.2 percent were from foreign countries.
During September, domestic visitors stayed in registered accommodation in Kuopio on average 1.7 nights (+0.22) and foreigners 2.4 nights (+0.21).
2,100 international congress guests in 2019
The number of international congress quests increased six percent from the previous year.
There was a total of 36 congresses organized (+3.0) in 2019.
940 air travelers
The airport received a total of 940 passengers, which means air passenger arrivals decreased 92 percent.
Of local passengers, 4.3 % arrived from abroad, thus the share of domestic passengers was 95.7 %.
In addition, there were 880 passengers departing the airport (-92.9 %), therefore the total number of trips via the airport was 1,800 (-92.7 %).
